About the Department

The department of microbiology at IPGDC [W] was established in the 1998. It offers UG course B.Sc., Microbiology in combination with Biochemistry and Chemistry. This combination provides good opportunities in R&D laboratories, diagnostic centers, food industries, teaching and also to pursue higher education. The objective of the course is to let students understand and appreciate the role of microorganisms in nature and their different applications and interaction with human and the environment. The mission is to produce nationally competitive students and research for the betterment of mankind. We are dedicated to execute high quality undergraduate programme by focusing our curriculum upon the strengths of faculty and the needs of our students. We will maximize the students’ abilities to pursue their goals by being socially responsible and globally aware life-long learners. The past five years average pass percentage is 75%.

Infrastructure:

Laboratory: The department has well equipped laboratories with laminar air flow, autoclaves, incubators, hot-air ovens, cold centrifuge, microscopes (one per student) etc.

Departmental Library: Standard reference books of national and international publications in the areas of microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and bioinformatics are available.
